 FAQs

  • We work with the friendly and hard-working folks Solar Meats in Soldiers' Grove, WI to butcher our beef. Their facility is top-notch and they are happy to answer any questions you may have about the custom-processing process.

  • When you buy in bulk, you are purchasing a portion of an individual animal on our farm. You reserve your animal in our store with a deposit, and then we reach out to you to confirm the details of what cuts you want via a google form. Your animal is then processed exactly according to your preferences. Depending on how long you want your animal to be aged (longer makes for more tender beef), in 2-3 weeks when the beef is ready we reach out to make delivery arrangements!

Because each animal varies in size, the final amount of meat and final price vary from animal to animal. We charge based on the hanging weight of your animal (the the weight of the carcass minus head and hooves, before being processed into meat). To keep things simple, you pay one price per pound that includes the cost paid to us as well as the butcher's charges.

  • This is the weight of the carcass of the animal minus head and hooves, before it is deboned and processed into individual cuts. For bulk beef, we charge by the pound of hanging weight. Our average animal's hanging weight is around 600 pounds.

  • For our animals, a quarter will typically take up 3.5 cubic feet of freezer space or 2 standard apple boxes, a half will take 7 cubic feet of freezer space or 4 standard apple boxes, and a whole will take 14 cubic feet of freezer space or 8 standard apple boxes.

  • Below is a sample of what would be included with a typical size quarter beef-- anything you chose not to take as a cut would be ground up and added to your total as hamburger:

    • 18 lb chuck (roast or steak)

    • 8 lb rib steak or prime rib

    • 4 lb rump roast

    • 8 lb round (roast or steaks)

    • 5 lb sirloin tip (roast and/or steaks)

    • 4 lb top sirloin (roast or steaks)

    • 2 lb tenderloin (roast or steaks)

    • 8 lb T bone or NY strip steak

    • 2 lb brisket

    • 3 lb stew meat

    • 3 lb short ribs

    • 4 lb soup bones

    • 35 lb ground

    • Organ meats if desired
